Once Upon a Marriage

7m • Drama • 2026

A simple question “can I see your phone?” has turned both their day and their worlds upside down .....

It’s early evening in, married couple, Róisín (29) and Niall’s (29) house. The tension is high as Róisín comes back from dropping their 2 kids off at her mother’s house following a disagreement herself and Niall had earlier in the day. One simple question “can I see your phone?” has turned both their day and their worlds upside down as Niall all-too-quickly refuses and deflects, bringing to life the long dormant and ignored issues of their marriage.

Walking, storming and arguing throughout the rooms of their shared home, scattered with the toys of their 2 children and the collected trinkets of their time together, this couple tensely and emotionally confront the years of uncommunicated issues, past grievances never solved and hidden secrets only now coming to light. Niall, cornered, yelled at and physically attacked by Róisín to try and get his phone, points the finger at Róisín’s supposed infidelity years ago when they were engaged, putting into question the paternity of their eldest child.

Both in a state of denial of their current situation and past mistakes, they arrive at an impasse of guilt, neither of them willing to deny or confess. They stand in tense and fragile final argument on the terrace of their apartment. Niall accuses Róisín of believing she settled for him, and walks away, leaving Róisín alone.
