Set on the eve of the Millennium, ‘CHARITY!’ tells the story of a closeted Irish Y2K pop princess who undergoes a surreal assault on the senses as she wrestles with the cost of fame and a diabolical record label that’ll stop at NOTHING to make her a star.

Funded by the BFI and starring one of Screen’s Rising Stars Ireland 2025 - Niamh McCormack - ‘CHARITY!’ is a subversive LGBTQIA+ musical comedy brimming with high-camp humour, full-blown musical moments, body horror, and iconic Y2K styling.

It’s 1999, and Charity is a pop product, not a person. Her Swedish svengali Oskar and stylist Mikey Z control her every move, morphing her from a singer-songwriter into a “Y2K Pop Tart” with a bejewelled belly-button pager. But when a haunting vision of her ex-girlfriend Sarah appears, Charity’s suppressed self finally rebels. When her own manufactured pop personas literally attack her in a hall of mirrors, Charity must fight to reclaim her voice, her love, and her soul before their remix consumes her forever.

With an evil boyband and a soundtrack of camp bangers, CHARITY!’ is a dazzling, technicolour satire on the factory of fame - and the fierce fight to reclaim a Queer identity.

Written and directed by the award-winning Irish and Queer filmmaker Stephen T Lally, produced by the Irish producer and screenwriter Cian O’Leary, and proudly supported by the BFI.
