Art That Rises

Made with funds received from the Galway City of Film Short Documentary bursary. Art That Rises follows Saidbh, a young girl living with Type 1 diabetes, as she takes part in a Helium Arts workshop — an Irish charity that gives children with chronic and life-limiting illnesses a creative space to express themselves beyond hospitals and diagnoses. Through painting, sculpting, and crafting, Saidbh finds moments of freedom, joy, and identity that reach far beyond her medical routine.

Blending intimate documentary storytelling with lyrical imagery, Art That Rises reveals the transformative power of creativity — not just as therapy, but as a celebration of resilience and individuality. Through the voices of parents, artists, and children, the film shows how art becomes a vital lifeline of hope, normalcy, and self-discovery in the face of illness.
